2017 Lace Up Basketball League Rules
• Officials have the power to warn or disqualify from the competition anyone who commits acts which intend to influence their decisions.
• Any ejected player may be subject to suspension issued from the league
• All technical fouls will be reviewed by Lace Up, LLC and anyone who receives a technical foul may be subject to suspension.
• Disciplinary issues, including ejections, physical fights, and tweets, may result in a penalty, including team expulsion from the league with forfeit of entrance fee.
• Teams will use a 29.5” ball.
• The game ball shall be made of composite or leather material.
• The court dimensions, three-point line, backboard, basket size, and all other court rules will follow the NFHS requirements.
• All players are required to wear league issued or approved uniforms.
• Players are permitted to cut the sleeves off of their jerseys, provided that it remains appropriate.
• No players may participate in any league activities without signing the medical release waivers.
• Arm sleeves, headbands, wristbands, and tights are permitted. All appropriate designs and colors are allowed.
• Shorts must be worn at or above the hip.
• Guards, casts, and braces may be worn for medical reasons and must comply with NFHS guidelines.
• Earrings, other jewelry, glitter, face paint, or other inappropriate items may not be worn during the game
• Walkie-talkies, cell phones, or any other electronic communication systems are not permitted within the competition area.
• Coaches, Fans, etc. are not permitted to videotape an opponent’s game or practice.
• Coaches are responsible for the supervision of their team before and after the game.
• There is no playing requirement rules; playing time is coach’s decision.
• Normal high school substitution rules apply. Again, substitutions are coach’s decision.
• If a player arrives late, he is allowed to participate in the game, pending coach’s decision.
• If a player receives 2 technical fouls, he will be ejected from the game, and subject to suspension.
• League directors and referees have the ability to remove a coach, player, or fan from the game area at any time.
• Practices are to be organized by the team.
• The length of the game will be four 8 minute quarters, with a 1 minute rest period between quarters. Halftime will be 5 minutes.
• Overtime periods will be 2 minutes. Overtimes will continue to be played until a winner is decided.
• Coaches will receive one additional timeout for each overtime period.
• Each team will begin the game with two 30 second timeouts and three FULL timeouts (5 total).
• The clock will stop during timeouts, shooting fouls, injuries, every whistle inside the last minute of the first three quarters and the last two minutes of the 4th quarter, and any other time indicated by the officials.
• The clock will stop on every overtime whistle.
• When a team has a 20 point lead, the clock will only stop for timeouts and injuries unless specifically indicated by an official.
• If a player is ejected, he is permitted to remain in the bench area unless an official or league director asks him to leave. If a coach is ejected, he must leave the bench area.
• A team may fullcourt press the entire game, unless they have a 20 point lead.
• Head coaches must be 21 years or older.
• No team may start the game with less than 5 players
• If a team has 5 players, they will have a 5 minute grace period to wait for their players to arrive. After the grace period is over, if a team does not have 5 players, they will forfeit the game.
• Any player that is believed to potentially have a concussion is to be immediately removed from the game or practice and may not return to Lace Up Basketball activities until Lace Up, LLC receives written notice from a doctor that the player may return to play. Violation of this rule may result in suspension or expulsion of both the player and coach.
• No player who is not on a team’s roster may play in any Lace Up Basketball game or practice. First violation of this rule will result in forfeiting the game. Second violation will result in a coach suspension. A third violation will result in expulsion of the team.
• Players may not be added to a team’s roster. However, in cases where a team will not have enough players to play a game, Lace Up, LLC may grant them the use of replacement players. In order to submit a replacement player request, the coach must call Lace Up, LLC at 216-406-1626 no less than 48 hours before the game that replacement players are being requested for. Lace Up also reserves the right to deny a request and requests that are not requested 48 hours in advance will not be considered.
o Added players are only allowed to play for the game(s) approved by the league. There will be a $10 fee per game that an added player plays in.
• Tennis shoes or basketball shoes must be worn for all Lace Up Basketball games, as requested by Gilmour Academy.
• Any player or coach who receives two ejections throughout the course of the season will be suspended for the remainder of the season. Note: Suspensions do not count as an ejection.
• Three-point shot is in effect.
• Lace Up, LLC will provide basketballs for each game.
• Playoff Seedings/Tiebreakers will be decided in the following order: 1. Record 2. Conference Win Percentage 3. Points Allowed 4. Coin Flip
• Lace Up, LLC reserves the right to make changes or amendments to these rules at any point before or during the season.
